Social Empowerment

Participation rights for Cambodian women and children are often poorly upheld, meaning that these people are normally restricted in their involvement in decision-making processes. Participation rights conflict with the traditional values and social norms of Cambodia, and as a result of this, children are not taught to express their views within family, school or community environments. Unfortunately, due to poor literacy and numeracy skills, poor families are even further excluded from community activities and planning.

Our goal is to increase the number of children (and their families) who contribute to planning and decision-making in their own lives and the lives of others.

What we do:

Build confidence, skills and knowledge of children and families to participate in decision-making. Increase opportunities children and families to participate in local planning and decision-making. Work with local authorities to better engage with community, children and youth, encouraging them to participate in the development of plans.
