COCD was established in 2007 by a group of Cambodian development professionals. They have expertise in rural development and child rights promotion. They share a common vision for community development and ending poverty.
COCD started working in remote regions of Cambodia where there was extreme poverty and need for social services. At this time there were no other NGOs or government programs operating in these communities and COCD paved the way for these communities to begin thriving.
Founding members felt that because of their personal history of having been refugees, they have a connection with marginalized and extremely poor people
March 2008, COCD was officially registered with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior with support from Terre Des Hommes Germany.
June 2012, COCD was recognized and certified by the Cambodian government as a Child Safe Organization (CSO).
